From 3. July 2024, the Czech Republic only recognises biometric travel documents issued by the Russian Federation. This step is aimed at increasing security and making it easier to identify holders.
Exceptions
The change does not apply to:

- Children up to 15 years old
- People in the Civil Society Programme
- Visa and residence permit holders in the interest of the Czech Republic
Transition period
Until 15. September 2024, non-biometric passports are still valid. After this date, all applications must be accompanied by a biometric travel document or they will not be approved.
Duties
Citizens of the Russian Federation with a valid residence permit must obtain a biometric travel document and report it to the Ministry of the Interior within 3 working days.
Implications for travel
Holders of non-biometric documents may enter the Czech Republic during the transitional period. After 15. September 2024, entry will be allowed only with biometric documents or under exceptions.
Examples of situations
1. Family holiday: a family with children up to 15 years old can travel to the Czech Republic with non-biometric documents up to 15. September 2024. After this date, children will be exempt, but adults must have biometric passports.
2. Study: a Russian student with a valid visa can come to the Czech Republic with a non-biometric passport until 15. September 2024. After this date, they must have a biometric passport to extend their stay.
3. Business trip: a Russian worker posted to the Czech Republic before 15. September 2024 can use the non-biometric passport. If you plan to extend your stay, you must obtain a biometric passport.
4. Visiting relatives: persons over 15 years of age must have a biometric passport to visit the Czech Republic after 15. September 2024, unless it falls within the exceptions.
