A foreigner is entitled to apply for a residence permit for the purpose of doing business in the Czech Republic if he/she is self-employed – self-employed (trade licence) or is a statutory body (managing director) or a member of the statutory body of a company or cooperative.

Long-term residence for business purposes

  • This is a type of residence which, unlike a long-term visa for the purpose of business, allows a foreigner to do business in the Schengen area and also to stay here for more than 1 year.
  • The application for long-term residence for the purpose of business is submitted to the competent office of the Ministry of the Interior if the foreigner is already staying in the territory of the Czech Republic on a visa of more than 90 days.
  • The application must be submitted before the expiry of the current residence permit, no earlier than 120 days and no later than the last day of the residence permit. The deadline for processing an application for long-term residence is 60 days from the date of application.
  • As a condition for the issuance of long-term residence for business purposes, the Applicant must hold a long-term visa with the same purpose of stay as is on the application for long-term residence.
