Employee – Blue Card for foreigners
Blue Card for foreigners
It is a type of long-term residence that allows a foreigner to stay in the Czech Republic for more than 3 months with the condition and difference from the employment card that he/she will be employed in a position that requires HIGH QUALIFICATION, i.e. duly completed university degree or higher vocational education if the course of study lasted at least 3 years
At the same time, if the applicant is interested in applying for a blue card, he/she is limited by conditions compared to an employee card, i.e. must have a minimum salary/wage of 1.5 times the average gross annual wage i.e. For the period from 1. May 2021 to 30. April 2022, the average gross annual wage in the Czech Republic is CZK 427,332. The amount of the foreigner’s gross monthly salary must therefore be at least CZK 53 416.50 during this period. The average wage is always updated by the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs
The Blue Card is issued for a period of two years or less – depending on how long the work period is granted
The application for a Blue Card is submitted to the relevant Czech Embassy abroad. Except in the following cases, you have the right to submit your application in the Czech Republic at the local office of the Ministry of the Interior.
The Blue Card is always issued for a specific position with a specific employer. If an employee wishes to change employer or position with the same employer within the first two years of the validity of the Blue Card, he/she must first apply to the Ministry of the Interior for approval of the change. After two years, it is only necessary to report the change to the MVČR within the given deadlines. Read more about changing employers for blue card holders here.
